  1. Did a short joirney & stopped for an hour or so then got back in and started fine. Driving along and a few minutes later the engine cut out, now nothing.

Lights on dash but not turning over firing, wuring or thunking noises, Nothing ...
    :-(

    Any ideas please?

Ahh boo. Not sure what type of engine you have, but have you tried hitting the selenoid on the starter motor? It worked on my bay which was a T1 engine. Check the wires to the starter motor, battery

  3. if its starter related you would normally get some noise from it, a click at least and a starter fault wouldn't cause the engine to cut out as you go along. Usual faults to check are loose battery connections, certainly a loose earth, loose earth from gearbox to body, flat battery.

If you have an electronic ignition I would wager flat battery or battery connection issue - points will still run on a flat battery but electronic will shut down as it registers the voltage drop

  4. ^^WHS - check the wiring from battery, starter motor, solenoid.

Check the earth strap between chassis & engine/transmission - especially if the engine has been out recently, as it's easy to forget to put it back.

  5. It's a 1977 2lit T4

  6. Electronic ignition and battery sounds like suspects

If you have an hot start relay - check the wiring is still connected securely to that too.

  8. Hot start relay?

ignore me didn't see you had no turning over thought it cut out, short the starter with a screwdriver and see if it turns over

  12. ignore me, commented on wrong thread. as is the problem when you have various tabs open.

  13. Could be a charging problem, knackered alternator maybe? Check the cables to it are connected properly and the fan belt is tight.

  14. This is why I always have a brew kit in my bus

    Unscheduled tea stop

    Hope it sorted soon buddy

Stuck or knack ed starter and or wire lose
Try hitting the starter with something and check connections on the starter
Also worth checking the connector on the coil
Or duff ignition switch try wigging the key

  16. Wife was driving and I was at work 70 miles away. Just home n gonna go and have a look shortly, if I can get the energy up!
From what everyone has said it sounds like the battery. Has been standing a while then done only short runs.
Been thinking about fitting an Amp meter for just this reason. .. oh well, we'll see. .

  17. Hi @Joker I have a multi meter, do you know how many Amps should there be?

  18. At the battery terminals that is

will if a wire comes loose. Mine can anyway.

  20. Live terminal connector looser than a loose thingy. Taken battery off as seems dead. Not sure if battery knackered but looks pretty old so put it on charge and will see how it is in the morning. But will probably start looking for a new one now. Any suggestions for a good existing thread for a new main battery?
