did you take a wire from the smaller wire on the starter then put it to the + post on the battery ? sounds like a good idea ive always struggled to turn the engine over and see whats going on in the noisy cupboard.

Have you got a diognostic plug, you can do it all via that

  5. Still on fuel issue, does it start and run ok. Did you take it for a run. Mine kept stopping when the fuel in the carb float bowl ran out, due to the needle valve not working correctly (dirt and worn).

Why are you now looking at the ignition. My hot air pipes heat up at different rates, left one very hot very quickly, right one very hot after a few minutes. I get some carb icing and then melting but doesn't affect the engine running on mine.

Maybe like me you have 2 issues, carb needle valve and some fault in the ignition.

Let us know if the engine starts ok and runs without stopping. Have you looked at your fuel filter, mine was full of crud due to rusty tank. New filter is always a good thing to do.

Took it for a run and all is well, only reason i'm looking at the ignition is to turn the engine over while at the back, fuel filter is ok siphoning through the pump into a jam jar while setting up to test the pump on the key
the right hand hot air pipe was cold enough to hold after a run, left one i couldnt touch

  7. The hot air pipe issue, I think someone else had same thing on the forum and i think the suggestion was the pipe could be blocked with exhaust crud and needs cleaning out.

I am sure if you put it on a new thread, folks would advise what to do about that problem.

Otherwise its good you are up and running.
