Brake pad anti-rattle plates.

  1. Hi Folks,
Been searching for a set of anti rattle plates for my front brakes calipers on my '74 devon, without any success, does anyone know where I can source these, and a quick question for the mechanical experts, "are they absolutley neccessary"? they were missing when I took the brake pads out, therefore I've been driving the bus for 2 years without them.
    Cheers, Stevo

  2. Do the brakes squeal? If not there's no issue. If yes just put a small smear of copper grease on the back if the pads
    :)

...think you've answered your own question...

  4. I just got some copper grease as I about to change my pads, but what's with the copper? Why is it used?

  5. Copper stops it seizing or something I think.

I found a set of anti rattle springs from VWH that you use in place of the cross shaped spring pushing on the edge of the pads.
The anti rattle springs cover the entire pad aperture from pin to pin and press hard on the edges of the pads. With plenty of copper grease this stopped squeaks and rattles.
I had searched for the original plates but they do not seem to be available.

  7. Thanks folks, I'll just pack the brake pads out with copper-slip, I had no issue with my brakes squealing or rattling before, so all is good, Ive purchased new pins and retaining plates so this should do the trick, also took the time to clean and wax-oil my wheel arches, a great job to do while the brakes and wheels are off...........well chuffed with myself

Copper slip is used because it has a high melting point. (brakes can get hot)
My pads started to rattle on one side. The anti-rattle plate had fell off. I got a set from GSF.

Wax oiled my full bus last weekend. Nasty job but it's a great feeling knowing its all done.
