Body repairs

  1. Any advice on what gauge of steel to use for general body repairs and where to source it from? I've seen so much great work by people patching panels, but I don't know what's best to use for such repairs.
    Any suggestions gratefully received.

  2. Hi, you would need 2mm for chassie work and 1mm for panel work, but i always use 1.2mm as thats what i like:p any steel shop will sell you a full sheet, but some may cut it at a charge or ebay is a good place for small bits hope this helps .if you take your time any panel can be made o_O have a look at my resto and see its cheaper than buying them as some are crrrap:confused:

  3. it's a good start! The last time I bought any steel it was 15m of 150mm I-beam!

  4. If you still got some of that that would make a great nocking plate cut it to about 10" long and stick it in a vice great bit of kit;)

  5. Sadly that all landed up holding up my roof.I'll maybe see if the merchant has an offcut!

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

Buy some of the panels you need - rear arches are favourite - use the off-cuts.

  7. ^ thats what i did, bought a sliding door outer skin, used what i needed. and had enough left over to repair the near side inner wheel arch bits.
    well happy

  8. Thanks for the advice, all...Once i've got the paint off so I can see what I'm dealing with, I'll know what I've got to buy!
