I was tempted with a new Bocar but decided to rebuild and rebush the old solex - bits came to about £20 and took a couple of hours ... Transformed the `feel` of the engine , much smoother ..... I`d try to sort out the solex if you have one - Bocar don`t seem very easy to set , only internet reports but haven`t heard anything good about `em .
My camper had a Bocar on it when I got it, it had been fitted in Germany in about '88 had no issues with it, I've recently replaced it with a repro carb from GSF which is a piece of rubbish. Rebuilding a genuine Solex would be my preference though.
I removed my Bocar as there was zero adjustment on the bypass screw. Completely in in completely out made no difference.
I am running a Bocar on my van - no problems in 4 years and runs sweet as a nut. Had problems with a Kafer and a Solex on the bug - I rebuilt/rebushed the Solex but couldn't get it running well and probably needs Gower & Lee treatment fettling which is about £180.
Every other bus has a bocar carb on it. They are as likely to be good/knackered as any other make. When people have a problem with a part they appear often to look to see who made it then dis the manufacturer, when it's more likely they need to replace an o-ring, or cure an air leak that isn't the carbs fault at all.
WHS ^^ . It took a lot of fiddling with my Bocar to get it right. Leaky bushes, jamming choke spindle and jamming stepped plate , broken choke heater resistor, general misalignment. I decided to replace it with similar but heard such bad reports of the new 34PICT-3 that I was enticed to the dark side at Volksworld 2012 and bought a progressive.
The one i have has a poor looking o ring on the adjuster so will have to try and get one any idea on the size This one also has a nylon adjuster screw instead of a brass one
I've got a bocar and it seems to work ok. The only major carb issue I've had was with a new kafer carb. There was some sort of coating on the inside of the float bowl, possibly residue from casting? After a few years it started to flake off and keeps blocking the idle jet.
My original carb lasted for 28 years, the replacement Bocar was knackered after two. Two years in which time I'd had the original rebuilt and refurbed by that eccentric nutter Laurie Ellis, it's back on again and runs as smooth as a smooth thing which has recently been polished.
