  1. This is actually a beetle related question, I hope that’s ok?!

my front drivers brake has seized on, only noticed this cos of smoke, but bug made it home....can I just turn the adjuster behind the drum or do I need to do more??

    Abit if a novice question

Sounds more like a ruptured flexi pipe, ruptured internally possibly and not allowing the fluid to release. I’d also want to have a good good look inside the drum or calliper.

    Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,, check your mechanicals too.:)

Try the adjuster first , could be a seized cylinder, 2 on each side on the front

  4. I’ve just checked it and it’s released now??

  5. It`s cooled down , still need to get the drum off to eliminate possible issues and check for wear ...

Might be cylinders, or might be flexi hose. Worth finding out.

Change your brake fluid as well, as it will be shot if you got it hot enough to smoke.

  10. When my rear brake stuck on in my bus , it turned out to be flakes of rust stopping the shoes sliding back. Needed wire brushing out

  11. I’m hoping it’s as simple as this tbh

  12. Is braking too much the problem if it’s the cylinder ?

Check the drum has not warped. And the shoes have probably glazed as well, so will need some sanding to restore grip, if you dont just replace both left and right while you are changing the front flexi hoses ..
If one side went the other one may be about to go

I had a rear brakes binding problem, turned out the PO had fitted the wrong brake shoes. Still tight even when adjusters backed right off.
