What a game….incredible. Hard on the Irish…..you can’t take anything away from the All Blacks…..so much skill from both teams, top drawer rugby union.
That's the problem with Rugby - two types of fan: 1 - The fans that only turn up when they think their team are guaranteed to win, usually festooned with all the replica kit, face-paint and will tell you about who they once played with or against at school (hello England), but they actually know very little about the game and can't pronounce Manu Tuilagi but will waffle on about how he was banned from doing weights because he got too big* 2 - Actual rugby fans who follow their team through thick AND thin, who are genuinely nervous before games, struggle to watch the actual game and celebrate more through genuine relief should they win more than anything else. The problem with the 1st fan - they also tend to be the worst for drinking and having very loud opinions and can't see their own bias when claiming the ref is biased. New Zealand used to say you only beat Wales on the Scoreboard - hard to argue with that given how many of our fans act both in victory and defeat - I guess some people can't but thrive on being hard done by or robbed and then not recognise that some times we won simply through that happening to the other team. * its a myth Tuilagi has been robbed of a career given his natural size and over training - he's well known for being a lazy trainer and didn't put any of the base work to staying injury free e.g. stretching.
The mate I was out with used to play for Leinster and Ireland under 21s. Years ago he bought me a Leinster shirt for some forgotten reason. Until yesterday it languished in the back of the wardrobe, never worn. I turned up at the pub in it last night in an act of solidarity. His face was a picture!
A Glaswegian I have watched games with for years on and off. He doesn’t drink but gets very angry the only spectator I’ve known banned from the club for a while. He played for Selkirk and Scotland He sounds exactly like him too. I only watch sport occasionally nowadays. The reason I watch rugby union is I played for a while as a youth for school and Droitwich thirds, but mainly because my best mate’s dad was president of kiddy back when we were 15 and 16 and the rugby club would serve us guinness!
Great game. Thought we were going to throw it away in the last 10. They did well to dig deep after conceding 2 in 5 minutes. Different level next weekend though.
The Welsh rugby Facebook pages are glorious at the moment. The number of salty Wales fans has made my day!
