The ones that make the wheels on the bus go round and round.

    Obvious.

Yes they are taper needle roller bearings, at least when I put some in the other day... To take axial as well as radial forces as you are cornering and putting the tyre into the wheel arch..

Cleverly designed to fall apart and drop into the dirt at the slightest mistake before bolting onto the axle stub.

Makes my two sets for £10 each at Volksworld from a guy with boxes of parts out in front of the grandstand seem good value (those were old stock JK with decent quality branded bearings)

Hi @Lasty - I need to change the front wheel bearings on my van and wondered if you went for the heritage ones you referenced or others. And if you have any comments re quality. As you say there seems a lot of choices at different prices. Thanks

  10. Hi mate , as usual the project grew legs and i ended up buying bearings and discs from Heritage as the had a combo deal at the time .

All seems well but bearing ( rolleyes ) in mind i haven`t had time to fit them yet take that with a pinch of salt ...
    (sorry..)

I find they do last a lot longer when they remain in the box....

Thanks for the info. I’ll have a look at what heritage are offering now. If I get them fitted I’ll let you know, but as you there’s every chance they’ll be in the box a while.

  15. I was in a bit of a situation and needed front wheel bearing quickly for the van.
Was pleased to see I could pick one up next morning from Euro Car Parts locally if I ordered straight away. Noticed the bearings were branded FAG. A known brand for years.
Picked them up next morning...noticed on the box 'made in Vietnam'...thinking hopefully the bearings aren't. Anyhow the FAG bearings inside the packaging were clearly marked 'made in Vietnam' also. The oil seal was unbranded.
I wasn't so happy fitting them but had no choice with the timescale.
Good news is...they have lasted over 1000 miles so far!

I was pretty chuffed to find my local GSF had them in stock so I bough their entire supply (only two sets mind!).

I have had one rear bearing set from from Heritage which I installed badly and it lasted 40 miles as the roller bearing almost melted ( it was not in exactly straight ).
Replaced with one from GSF and that has managed probably at least 50k miles as has the Heritage one the other side that went in properly!

It’s been a while I but bought the FAG front wheel bearing kits from Euro CP and I recently braved the cold to fit them. All good so far..
Just over £50 for the 2 kits.
