Best way to repair drip rail and gutter rot

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by nikos, Mar 20, 2012.

  1. Hi,

Have some gutter rot that I need to take care of, with the main problem being the rotted supports under the roof.
Should I remove spot welds on the rood side, cut it out and get to the supports/ribs under it or should I try to remove the spotwelds from the supports to the side panels from the inside and then cut out the roof and supports as one unit. This is a panel...
Have to do several spots 40-50cm on the right side as well as the rear complete.
Would appreciate some advice from others that hav done it.

    regards and tia,

  4. Didn't think this post would be so popular and difficult. Maybe I should have asked how much tire pressure I should be running....

    So,

If anyone has a roof section cut, maybe someone can answer this before I start cutting..

I figure the section and pillar is composed like the pic below...

Would really appreciate if anyone can give accurate dimensions for the two pillar pieces so I can fab them up before I rip this thing open.
Make's life easier to have these pre-bent and ready than to cut out and drive 2 hours to the sheet metal place...

    regards,

  5. Just wondered how you got on with the repair.

I've found the "J" section gutter repair the best match if damage not to extensive.
Problem I had was it's only made in 90cm length and when I had mig welded the whole side length
it's just not put on straight enough - 2nd side was better. I really need to do it again.

Given the modern glues for steel wondered about gluing on with an epoxy as I could get it lined up well and it would be gap filling so prevent moisture ingress - I'll never hang a roof rack but not bothered about that.

Anyone used stell glues in their work?
