Bell Crank or Hex Bar?

It's how I did it on the buggy. I was going to do the same on the bus but to be honest I used the chromed tin ones I had because it's quicker to undo one butterfly nut by hand than using a socket on two nylocks on the cast type. I've got the bell cranks nicely set up on both - I found it easier to do than setting up a hexbar.

  2. Bell crank on a type 1 is so easy, pointless using a hex bar jobbie unless there’s a good reason to.

That’s it Mark, easy enough to do - but I might not get aroundtoit.:)

  4. Given I was paying the same price as the US, just without the exorbitant shipping, it seemed like a no brainer. If I'd had to pay for two new complete filter sets, I probably would have got the angle grinder and files out too.

I'll eBay my original linkage as it's only missing the two threaded bars that hold the filter tops in place and the filters themselves, it might be good for someone spares or repair.

  5. Not so easy on a Type 4 with no hatch, although the hex bar wasn't a simple to fit as I'd hoped for. I didn't fancy rerouting cables either, if it sin"t broke....

On that point, I have the bell crank on the Bug and love it, but I have seen at least one of these CSP bell crank linkages fitted to a Bus where the linkage fouls on the right hand heater outlet on the fan housing; no heating on the Bug.

  6. It is close. Mine clears the RH fan outlet by a couple of mm.

Fortunately on a buggy there ain't no heaters! So I chopped off the outlets and and blanked them off but that's probably not an option for you. Type 4s on the other hand are much easier.

  8. Mine works fine with a stock shroud. Hard to think CSP would've cocked it up - they're German! May be some folk have mis-aligned fan shrouds.

  9. No idea, I only know what I saw on the day. I went back to have another look, just to make sure I wasn't dreaming things up.

As for cock ups at CSP, wait until my next post on this thread. I am honours even with them on that score ;)

It depends on the arms on your carbs but there's always a way to pack out or adust to miss things.

  11. They're German. You've done it wrong ;).

  12. Nope....suffice to say 40 IDF are not the same as Dellortos, even if they say "same, same kit" when asked twice.

  13. What didn't work?

  14. The metal plates that fit onto the carb spindles are different on Dells, the end and start stops are different, you have to use the spindle arms for Dells. I got a good look at my mates and he had exactly the same problem as I did. And we both independently solved it's the same way, making a hybrid setup using both the existing Dell spindle levers and the new ones from CSP.

  15. Have you got Dells or Webers? I've lost track...

  17. @S1mon was asking for some pictures of my new CSP linkage and I really should follow up on this thread by posting some images of the mostly finished, is anything ever really finally done, article.
