Has anybody fitted a bellcrank throttle linkage to a type 4 with twin idf40s? Machine 7 say their type 4 bellcrank (CSP) only fits with a Porsche fan shroud? They say I'd have to extend the adjuster rods for a std layout. That makes no sense to me. Is there another option anyone knows of please? I've just converted my buggy from hexbar to bellcrank and the difference is enormous.
Just looking at the Eurocarb site implies the CSP kit with a type 4 should be fine for IDFs (or Dells).
Machine 7 are just repeating what CSP state but they are wrong and the CSP bellcrank fits just fine with no modifications.
That’s fitted with CB Performance 3156 Type-4 manifolds. https://www.cbperformance.com/product-p/3156.htm
Thanks Westy that's what I thought. Eurocarb are only £60 instead of £95 too. Wonder if it's a different kit? Will call shortly.
I can’t find it on the Eurocarb website, do you have a link? You’ll also need the return spring – the kit doesn’t include it. https://www.dellorto.co.uk/shop/vw-...arts/bellcrank-return-spring-csp-129-881-100/
CSP only make one Type 4 bellcrank for IDFs. https://www.csp-shop.com/en/engine/bellcrank-linkage-csp-129-941-400-18236a.html?cache=1570194736 I can only find the CSP hex bar linkage but if that’s^ what Eurocarb are selling it will fit – as long as you have long manifolds.
Looks like the one on Eurocarb is not CSP and a bit of a cheapie: https://www.dellorto.co.uk/shop/vw-...ber-idf-dellorto-drla-bell-crank-linkage-kit/ I downloaded the instructions for the only Type 4 kit CSP make and I can't for the life of me see why it has anything to do with a Porsche fan shroud. https://www.csp-shop.com/en/engine/bellcrank-linkage-csp-129-941-400-18236a.html If you download the pdf from that link fir the instructions it has very clear photos in it too. So I would say the Type 4 one should work with a std fan layout as the bellcrank-linkage is bolted at the gearbox end of the engine - nowhere near the fan!
A bit more research. It seems the kit is designed for a Type 4 with Porsche fan shroud in a Beetle. It's apparently the throttle cable that comes through in the wrong place on a bus. Will investigate tomorrow.
The throttle cable does need to be repositioned but otherwise the CSP linkage just bolts on with no modifications. Zedders modified his with an extra bracket so he could connect the carbs at the back and make adjustment easier – access being more difficult without a hatch. The Eurocarb bellcrank kit looks similar to the CSP although the pivot might not be mounted in ball bearings. The fixing nuts, bolts and washers are missing from the pic but they are pennies and at half the price of the CSP I’d try it, unfortunately I didn’t know about it when I bought mine.
Yes Westy I spotted the lack of bearings. I think I'd rather go for the CSP. The cheap one is 60 with Vat and there's probably postage. Having splashed out on the Buttys Bits stuff at the front I'd only regret not getting the CSP - I'll just pop down to the special tree at the bottom of the garden and pick a few more tenners.
CSP are pricey, but it’s good stuff. The bell crank on my type 1 is rock solid and took about half an hour to fit. As above, get the extra return spring as well, if they do one for the type 4.
Yes the CSP on my buggy type 1 motor is the DBs. Not sure if the spring fits the type 4 version but I didn't buy one for the buggy either - maybe I should buy one and see if it works on the type 4 and if not I can use it on the buggy.
I wasn't sure as they're different design and shape bell cranks for type 1 and 4. I'll get one to see anyway.
