battery terminal replacement..

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by konaboy6284, May 20, 2013.

  1. mine is a joke, so i want to just rip it out and start again..
yet there is so many random things bodged onto it by PO's that i cant work out what goes to where, and what is just dead weight.
(like the 50A fuse that was on it when i got the bus, which went pop, so i bypassed ;))

i think my main question is what cable should i use to make a new battery terminal?
and it goes to the starter motor?

this is my current one... Sir Bodgealot has been hard at work here!!

The shortest length they do is a metre which should do it. You'll also need a wire from the alt/gen to the positive terminal too.

  6. And if that's what you can see mate , take the time(dosh ,approx. £13 but can be sourced for £7 ,X of usual bus parts outlets) to fit a quick release terminal to your batt. it does make sense(ask me how I know, but you can prob. guess)

  7. cheers man, i think il be able to save the one from the alternator by just chopping the end off and putting a new connector on as it was way too long anyway :)

and yeah, i was thinking of finding a quick release one, but the quick release ones i have look exactly the same as the JK ones, and some of the other ones ive seen going, and they are CRAP! they've just fallen apart, so looking for a different type of QR one, or will just go back to the old fashioned fixed ones, i want wiring i can trust, and that definitely isnt the case with those QR terminals ive got..

Unless you have the right size crimping tool you will struggle getting the crimp on properly and as its on the starter it has a lot of vibration and muck thrown at it you want a good connection.

  12. thats a valid point, i hadnt thought of that. il give it a go though, got some decent sized crimpers so should be alright :)

and if not, il just swear al lot and buy the one of JK haha
