Thats what i did with mine lubed them up ....danger is the grease can rot the carp rubber boots you get today, mine only lasted 4 years then had to put another on ...having said that easier doing the boot rather than the ball joint .
Goes without saying, shock off, ARB off then hub off, John. I took the whole drop arm to a specialist for a new joint, but the joint itself had gone. The upper boot can be done with the drop arm in situ, for that boot, you don't need the lower clip, just the upper clip, the boot stays in place on the upper joint fine without the lower clip. Take care if the Bus is lowered, the suspension may well be under load and move when you free the hub. I had success with the twin hammer method to break the tapers. Make certain you buy the the boots that have double concertina fold, the single folds don't stay put. Edit, I warmed up the rubber using hot water to stretch the boot over the castor nut.
Thanks Andrew, that's very helpful. Between you and @Zed, I've got enough of a plan to tackle the job!
The Meyle ones are fine, I think that's what I bought. Again, I think it's the BBT ones that are pants.
