Bad day with the Van!

  1. Will yesterday could not have gone quick enough!.

Started with a nice drive in the van to do errands. Put clutch in to shift and heard a spring sound. Clutch just barely worked after that. Made it home , carefully and checked the cable. Although it looked good on each end, down near the bowden tube there was a "kink" in the steel tube that the O.P. had straightened out and the cable was frayed there because of the broken tube at the kink. So had to cut the last 6 inches of the steel tube off and bang and hammer out the kink. Then weld the kinked part back up and then weld the end of the tube back on the bus, (which is way in over my head when it comes to welding). Had one more errand left to do so set out to finish and made it 2 Kms from home and the throttle cable snapped at the carb end.

Borrowed a buddy's car to finish errands, (get the dog from the vets) and while putting gas in his car at the local garage, I was told the meeting I'd prepared for during the afternoon (before crawling under the van) was in fact the day before, I'd missed it by a whole day.

So..... limped van home before dark last night. Finished repairing the gas cable this morning, with a cable clamp from a heater box. Found and fixed a broke electrical terminal on the electric choke while inside the engine bay.

And now I'm back to where I was yesterday morning before the "adventure began" .
Hope to have a few days of good running before repeating any of that!!!Maybe even be able to finish up this last month of our vanning season, without a brake down. Cheers!

Well done for keeping calm and carrying on.

I spend some time in Halifax a few years ago and loved the place.

  5. jeez, you've had all your bad luck for one day, so tomorrow will be infinitely better :)

  6. yup well done for battling on .... ;D

  7. Dont worry it'll soon be snowing and minus 20 so a small problem with the van should be nothing to worry about ;D

Been to Halifax NS on a couple of occasions ... and Cape Breton ... lovely place
