No problem.. It was a chiropractor that explained the height thing to me then with each treatment explained what the issue and causes were and what he would do to ease things off... I went to the practice for about 2 years constantly but prior to that I had suffered for around 10/ 12 years, I remember at its worst being driven home from work after I couldnt walk across the car park after prising myself out of the car ... when I couldnt put one foot in front of the other I thought it was time to seek alternative attention... The first chiropractor was a quack who strapped me into some kind of streching machine, but didnt feel comfortable with him so moved on and was lucky to find the fella that really got me sorted. He has since returned to Australia but If I could thank him I would .. I still use the practice and changed from one chiropractor to another within the practice as I didnt think they were doing me much good.. The one I see now is ace shes into campers and being a 6 foot red head is pretty easy on the eye too.. :)

The big thing is to make every effort to relax... try to focus on the tightness and mentally shift the discomfort away from the area, take deep breaths through your nose close your eyes and breath deeply in hold and out and just get your self less tense ... sounds a bit flakey but honestly, relaxing, massage and exercise are all the first steps to a full recovery... once your sorted and find yourself tightening up again you will see just how much you suffered. There is nothing like the relief of being free from back pain and its so easy in most cases to find full relief without pills or surgery... I can say that because I have suffered.. Im only saying so much on the subject because Its some thing that is close to me and I know what its like to be wracked in discomfort and to come out the other end and experience the massive change and absolute relief.... I started mountain biking a couple of years ago and I have since been back to the chiro for a couple of sessions but there just tweeks.. you are supposed to go for a wee mot every now and then just to keep things tuned up... I go back when I pick up a slight twitch ... for a wee tweek :)

when I mentioned relaxing, I wouldnt recomend the method mentioned above... ( hash) like other drugs including those provided by your vet, they are masking agents. Masking the problem with artificial brain stimulation doesnt help phisical symptoms... it masks the symptoms by fogging the brain, you think your relaxed...and you need to continue medicating to relax... By learning to relax naturally you will be relaxed all the time, realise when your getting tense and know what to do without meds to chill... :)

I sound like some kind of mad hippy therapist, all I can say is how good I feel having took the action I took ... and NO im not a chiropractor or an alternative therapist, Im just a dude whos tipping 50, pain free :) and drug free :)

    Good posts @redoxide :)
I suffer from all that right up to the neck bit. I have a herniated C-summat at the bottom andthis time last year narrowly avoided a neck operation after my arm had been going numb when I looked up.
So I'll add posture - If I don't watch out sciatica from the lower back and numbness from the neck. A few months standing up/sitting straight and the neck one is seemingly cured with no operation. The lower back isn't so easy and working under peoples dash boards cab play havoc, but since the disc herniated I don't get the spasm back-ache I used to which is a small bonus.

And another vote against the mind wharping highly adictive crap they dole out nowadys. Not pain relief, just drugs they give anyone and everyone to stop them caring either about their pain, depression or anything slightly long term - answer seems to be turn the patient into zombie with Tramadol, then tell them they can just stop any time - ha-ha from the experience of a few friends. You're only supposed to take it for a few weeks max.

Careful with the chiropractor - when I herniated my disc I didn't know what I'd done, pain in hip and leg, not back. The chiropractor did the favourite trick of all chiropractors where they twist your back (exactly what I did to herniate the disc) and finished me off. I should have sued but went meekly home to lie in agony on the living room floor for 2 months.

Aparantly I don't have a back problem it is my third metatarsal on my left foot had it pushed back in to place ouch!! My body has been favoring my right leg putting my spine out of alignment this ment two dislocated ribs fooking ouch!!!!!!!! Im abit bruised and battered but feeling better than I did last week.

Instead of treating the pain treat the cause makes sense to me or even try to find the cause? But feeling loads better I'm off out for a walk tomorrow see what happens

  9. hope it works out for you, take it easy for the first ten miles;) ,bleedin so called experts n backs are a nightmare

  10. Good luck with all this! It sounds like somebody is sorting you out!
I am a Physio by trade and see a lot if back problems!
As Zed said be careful if anybody wants to manipulate your back, if you have an unstable disc it is the wrong thing to do!
It sounds however that the chiro you are seeing is a good one!
It is the same in every proff good and bad therapists! You see a good chiro osteopath or Physio you will get good treatment!
If you want to run any specific suggestions by me then PM me if I can help I will! Sometimes an op is the only way but not always! It is always best to try conservative treatment first!

Also the sooner you can reduce and ultimately get off the meds the better! Just be aware that you need to slowly reduce some of your meds especially the amytryptilline!

Good luck fella I hope the foot diagnosis works out for you :)

  11. I was off work 3 months and in traction in hospital for a while after damaging my back with heavy lifting. They gave me a corset to wear when I left hospital. I reckon traction made it worse though.

I went to an osteopath who gave me manipulation and heat treatment. It made me feel better for an hour or so, but he also told me to dump the corset and try some exercises to keep mobile. Best of all he got me swimming. That was really the key. I've had a few repeats over the years but can usually be back to normal in a couple of days.

I know how devastating the pain can be and I'm grateful I got the right help. It worked for me but not everybody is the same.
