Back plates on a 72 Cross Over?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by ironage, Jan 15, 2012.

  1. Hi All

I'm just changing the front discs on our 72 cross over and i've just realised the Bus has no back plates fitted? It should have them shouldn't it? Thanks

But I think they are different from the ones commonly for sale.

  3. Is it a one year only thing Zed? Thanks for your replies by the way.

I think it is. I had a x-over in and swapped to later discs/hub etc and the old backplate didn't fit so I had to swap that as well.

  5. Thanks Zed

i've bought new discs to fit to the hubs and i realised that there are no back plates fitted! so i need to buy a new pair, i also need a drop arm for a steering box (early) should you know where i can buy one, maybe volksheaven ? thanks again

  6. Backplates on discs were normally only to reduce water splash onto the discs, so they are hardly a vital component. Now that disc brakes are standard (front at least), everyone knows to dab the brakes after passing through standing water. Not the case in 1972.

  7. You might have to adapt the later backing plates..
