Are US spec front indicators legal?

  1. Or more specifically can you have the side marker lights illuminated (twin filament lamps). Was going to fit my spare units to the van and realised they are US spec jobbies and liked the idea.

  2. I'm running with them in one of mine, i've got white lenses white side light lamps and have converted the indicators to single filament amber indicator lamps, i think Birdy runs with the amber lens twin filament side light on all the time.

  3. Just realised looking elsewhere that some have seperate lamps for sides. Mine have twin filament lamp holders. Thinking about it i couldnt use clear lenses as lamps are white unless I paint em!

  4. I've just bought a set of US spec indicators because I wanted to use the reflector bowls from them (cheap aftermarket indicators like the ones in my bus have a flat piece of metal as the reflector and its useless) but I might look into using the other bulbholder for sidelights, because I have clear lenses in the indicators.

I do indeed run with the amber side markers illuminated. Totally legal. And they look cool too. I'm even going to do it to my Ragtop Golf.

Artics have side markers down the length of their trailers. Can't see them being a problem.

  7. You still can, twin filament amber lamps for white lenses will just give you amber side lights so the same as birdys bus with his amber lenses

  8. can you get a twin filament amber lamp?

  9. I've got a set that I bought from theSamba, as they were in good nick. They look rather fine, and I've never found anything in the vehicle lighting regs that says you can't show amber to the front. I've passed an MOT with them. You do need white sidelights in the UK, but you'll have those in the headlamps.

There are two bulbs in them: one low-wattage sidemarker and a dual-filment for front marker and indicator. I disconnected the front marker, as the flashing of the indicator wasn't that clear with the front marker filament illuminated. Side markers still look fine. Go for it!

  10. I know you can with a staggered bayonet on them not 100% sure with straight bayonet pins, but then i'm not sure which pin layout the lampholders are as i said i swapped mine with single filament holders, have yours not got the separate side marker fitment in them too?

No problem with them here - 3 years & 3 mots without any issues & on a plus side I've got no sidelights in the headlights either, been straight passes all the way :)

  12. Just had a butchers and they do have the metal part for the small side-light bulb but not a lamp holder. The main lamp holder is for twin filament stop and tail type lamp! Now where can I get the small lamp holder from?

You just have to love em. l would post a little flick but it seems the new forum doesn't like films.

  15. Nooooo! wanna see the film!!!

  16. The lamp holders (and the bulbs) are exactly the same as the rear bayonet sidelight/brakelight bulbs.

  17. Yep got that, had a look. Also got some amber paint coming for painting indicator lenses so can paint the lamps and retain my clear lenses. Just need to find out what the small lampholder looks like if anyon has one to hand. Will stick clear lamps in those and see which looks best!!

  18. Just dug these out, They will need the old style connectors drilling out but of you pm your address i'll bung them in the post to you.
