After tekenders and realising how vital having power in the bus is. Ive heard that the 83 quid 240v hook up kit is all i need to get set up for electricity, but from peoples pictures ive seen in build threads, ive seen extra bits located near the white trip box, so my question is, is there anything else i need in addition to this kit? www.justkampers.com/mains-hook-up-kit-surface-mounted-240v One other thing, i have a leisure battery so will the hook up allow me to use power from the leisure battery or will i need an inverter sttached to it to be able to do that? Thanks peeps
I've got the flush mounted one and its fine ,got everything you need You would need a zig unit attached to this so you could charge both leisure battery and car battery. The hook up has nothing to do with you leisure battery ,you would have to use and inverter still attached to one of your 12v outles ,normally your cigarette lighter socket.
Technically it doesn't comply as the mcbs are not twin poll This one does http://www.xtremevan.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=5013 Have a read of this http://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/leisure-electrics-230v.5526/
The 230v will just proved you with 230v sockets Rather than a zig get a proper muit stage charger like a ctex charger and plug it in and connect it to the battery this will charge the battery when on hook up http://www.amazon.co.uk/CTEK-CTE-MX...6?ie=UTF8&qid=1365952839&sr=8-6&keywords=ctex For 12v have a look hear http://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/leisure-electrics-12v.5390/
All i will say is it doesn't comply with the latest electrical regs Each Final circuit shell be protected by a over current device which disconnects all live conductors of that circuit. BS7671:2008 amended 2011 Section 721 reg 721.43.1 Definition of a live part a conductor intended to be energized in normal use including a neutral conductor but, by,convention, not a PEN conductor
You will find a lot of the kits sold are the same as its easier to get the basic standard MCBs and most suppliers don't keep up with the regs as its a specialist field. As a electrician i can only tell you to follow the regs
adds another thing to ever increasing shopping list p.s. sorry to spook you earlier but didn't have number to call and was too busy looking in rear view to check if all oil had been dumped. from now on i shall not listen to anymore vw horror stories and rely on tried and tested blissful ignorance to get me home
hahahaha! will have to put my vat of wilko oil up for sale now. or should i use it in the new engine???
It will be fine. I use to throw a none RCD lead through the cab window for 3 years. Its got circuit breakers and its grounded FFS.
It was indeed a JK one, you should be pretty educated with the setup of it after that too Thanks again!
From my point of view.... I was going for this..... JK hookup for a 2 plug 240v circuit + a leisure battery charger (anything from about £50 upwards), then the leisure battery to run a 12v circuit of maybe 3 ciggy lighter sockets and probably a LED strip or 2. This will get me a 12v cool box, mobile charger and a spare. Tempted to put a switch in which will allow radio to be flicked between the main and leisure battery at will. Personally I don't think I will use the 240v unless I put a heater in there. And the good news is, the van still hasn't gone live!
