Are gauges a good idea or will I just panic more?

  1. Get your flaps back in. VW put them in for a purpose. As well as opening and shutting, the vanes guide cooling air over the heads. If your bloke has fitted a Mexican stat (which means he's sawed up your mounting bracket), get him to take it off again.

You can find bellows ones around, new ones even. I've never had any trouble with mine.

  2. I think I'm correct in saying the flaps being there or not wont effect the fuel you use. The carb and choke aren't connected to the the engine flaps. So when you fire the engine up from cold the choke will stay on the same amount of time with or without flaps!

    Grrrr flaps

  4. Flaps.

  5. Just a thought on gauges, when I fitted my temp gauge I got uber worried, it was showing 130 degrees, having checked it against a Snap on calibrated gauge I now know mine shows 30 degrees too hot, it's still very useful though as I'll know if it goes to 150 I've got problems. :)

Speedwell volt and Smiths Oil pressure from a Triumph stag i think...but again, not wired in...Look nice though...

  8. I will be fitting a oil temp gauge and an oil pressure gauge in the paravan when it comes back

I will watch them a lot at first but once ive become acustomed to there normal routines under different conditions
Then they will be there to provide me with a warning that somthings not quite right so ill pull over and take a look

  9. Ive got oil temp gauge andit works to the point you can see if your temp is creeping up more than you would expect , and id say you dont worry unless you see something thats not normal going on, if you are going faster than normal for any particular reason( getting past that stinky exhaust of the vehicle in front or just showing offo_O) id say does a pilot use his gauges;)

^^^ So whats the maximum safe oil temp then Barney?

I panicked yesterday for a second, I'd removed the lighting earth from the guages by accident and though they worked fine during the day, when I checked a little after putting the lights on, the temp was off the scale max and pressure off the scale min.

  12. Porsche combined temp pressure. I did not want any external ones.

  13. I just have a pressure gauge. If its got oil pressure its cooling, job done. I've got head temperature sensors fitted but no gauge. If I could find one I'd opt for the porsche gauge above
    :)

  14. Picture is blurred, is that a 911 or 914 gauge?
    :)

  15. Pass? mine runs between 90-110 when warmed up on a run, i slow down if it goes much over that but depends on engine condition and how accurate the gauge is , but the gauge will tell you if the temperature is rising steadily which would give you time to pull over and investigate.

  16. Absolutely spot on  Precise figures, not that these gauges are very accurate, mean very little. Best used as a trend indicator.

  17. Now I like that, where did you get it from?

  18. 911, the pressure range is a bit high for a t1 but it does the job. 3 redundant/spare lights which I have no use for at the moment

  19. I kinda like the temp gauge on the t25 after a bit like normal cars you forget it is there...Separate gauges would do my head in....
