Anyone been to Brussels

  1. I've got a week off this week and me and Mrs Mabel are eurostarring it to Brussels on Monday for two nights. Staying in a hotel by Sainte Catherine where there's a massive Christmas Market. Any recommendations as to what else to see, restaurants to try?

  2. Tuesday wildchild

    Tuesday wildchild I'm a circle!

Yes but I was only a wee lad so can't recommend anything.

  4. Yep, it's lovely. The Grand Place or whatever it's called is very touristy, but really beautiful and the streets around there are great for restaurants, also the bar/pub places have log fires and cheap belgian beer! Well, cheap compared to prices over here anyway. There's a really good motor museum in a park near the centre, i can't remember what it's called, but it's well worth a visit. Also worth a visit is Bruges which is a quick train ride away, well worth a day trip if you've never been.

  5. Never to Brussels, but generally find food is good in Belgium and and beer very good. I imagine Brussels will be the same, but pricier.

  6. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

A friend of mine went there and his daughter pretended to go to school for a year while bunking off, then his wife left him. I never got to go over to visit before it went tits up. Looks nice though.

  7. my friend used to work at the European parliament so i was out there a few times ...

make sure you go to the atomium and the tintin museum

  8. Yep the Atomium is fantastic.

  9. ta - weather looking a bit damp so the open fires and belgian beer will be a welcome sight.

  10. It's pretty good - we have been there couple of times. If you like Chocolate they do to my surprise a really good tour around the various types they make in Brussels and you get a go at making some - takes around 4 hours.

There is huge Milatary Musem a short walk from Grand Place ( means Market) which is free to enter and is well worth a visit. Go to the tourism office under the Town Hall they have loads of stuff - and major points to be won if you can spot the the lack of symmetary in this fab building.

Oh and not let's forger the Beer - every flavour, colour and strength to be had! And Waterloo is just the road - go up the Lion Mount great view of the Battlefield.

  11. just back. Very nice, probably better to visit in Winter than summer. Winter Market was good - have spent most of the two days constantly eating and drinking - Hot Wine and snails :) lovely architecture and loads to see. would recommend.

  12. Went in 92 with college ,went hysel for a student fair ,saw the mollecule thing and also Hysel stadium which was a Marmite hole ,it also had die scousers graffitied on it ,seem to remember there was a really nice square in the centre though ,also visited the european parliament and sat in on a discussion that they were voting on ,boring as crap.
