I'm planing to stick the engine back in tomorrow and I just wondered if any of you guys have any tips/common pitfalls etc for doing it? I have watched JK's youtube video which seems good. I obviously need to remember to put oil and fuel back in!!
1. Don't be surprised if it doesn't slot straight back in. 2. Patience is a virtue. 3. Sometimes, the most illogical thing works, like just jiggling it a bit or lying flat on your back and pushing it in with your heels. 4. You WILL invent new swear words. 5. Make sure you know where the sticking plasters are.
Put the oil in before you fit it. It's the only chance you'll ever have for an easy fill up. If it won't go the last inch, put it in gear with handbrake on and turn the crank to anf fro using the alternator pully nut while shoving.
And take your time, be safe dont let anything fall on you , ensure van and engine safely propped up. Oh yes colloqual english helps- warn the neighbours.
If its your first time mate try and get a hand from someone. They can maybe steady it on the jack while you check its going on ok
Stop and look from time to time between the front of the engine and the gearbox to see how far you you have to go.
Dont bother youll be pulling it back out again withing the week because you either forgot somthing or its leaking oil
Dont forget to thread the accelerator cable through the fan housing before you shove the engine back onto the gearbox , its a real bugger to do after , been there done that !
Thanks for the tips! Just got in from the shed after having put the engine back together. Alarm is set for 6.45am and I have a mate coming to help from 8am. I have a feeling I will have forgotten something...
Best of luck to you dude Just take your time and youll be right its more complicated when you think about it compared to when you do it
And have it back out by ten as you forgot to thread the accelerator cable through lmao Im dredding putting mine back in because ive painted and polished everything so pretty I took it out with broken bones in one hand lol
