Any suggestions for cleaning a black crackle finish dash?

  1. Any suggestions for cleaning a black crackle finish Dash?

The dash is in good condition, and shows no sign of damage and the paint is good – but is dirty.

I have tried cleaning it with thinners- and normal house hold cleaners and looks fantastic when wet, nice and black but as soon as it dry’s, it goes back to looking old a dusty.

Has anyone got a quick fix – or do I have to blast it and re paint with crackle finish paint.

    Thanks

    Marc

  2. which part are you referring to mate, the bit by the windscreen, or the round vent holes, the dash pods and glove box section?

  4. Its the main dash - the bit that faces you - not the top - that's ok
    Thanks

Maybe try some black pigmented cleaner/polish for car bodywork?

Or the back to black dash spray.

  6. Only real cure is to remove the dash (pretty easy) and spray the lot. No need to blast it. A few coats of Halfords matt black works pretty well. The crackle isn't actually crackle (more lumpy flecks), so MG-style crackle paint'll look odd. You can redo any bald patches with the aerosol paint intended to give a textured finish to stuff - works pretty well.

  7. I sanded ours back an resprayed it, worth the effort in the long run.

  8. Shoe polish with a shoe polish brush :) The boot polish makes the bits the other cleaners can't get to go black rather than grubby looking

exactly what i was going to suggest, 2 or 3 applications if need be, polish it off after a few mins and it looks like new :)
