.....for burning on the fire I was thinking of buying one of these for making paper bricketts for burning on my fire to suppliment the wood and to use up any waste paper (which usually gets burnt loose - which doesnt last long) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BRIQUETTE...61278014?_trksid=p2054897.l4276#ht_3139wt_986 any one tried them?? I'm thinking I can get stacks of newspaper so it may be a good cheap source of fuel......and I've got pleanty of free labour with my kids making the paper into mush!! ....although I know its not the best time of year to start making them as it will take ages for them to dry
hi diddy i have one of them in the garage my wifey spent ages making loads of bricks but they dont burn that hot or long so dont bother using them much. i dont think they compress hard enough..
Had one many years ago and still have it somewhere. You'll need plenty of space to dry the bricks. They do work but its very time consuming.
got one and loads of blocks made, it does take time to make them, I compress them by standing on the bit the handles should push on and find they last longer that way! better then burning loose or binning paper!
drying them out in the summer should be no problems, I'll lay them all out in the green house time....well, if I can get the kids off the Xbox for long enough that shouldnt be a problem either ......hang on....thats not going to happen !!! thinking, I could always add some wood chipping from shreading thick branches from garden prunings might make it last a bit longer too
i found them to be a waste of time and money, heres what i did .. sold the brickmaker .. i then got shreaded paper from a shreader, soaked it over night in water , then put on tough rubber gloves and squeezed the mush into tennis ball sized balls, popped em in trays to dry, i made a few dozen and they burn well and are good for fire lighting.. simples ...eeeeek
Very impressive I expected this thread to head in this direction a lot sooner and I bet @Diddymen was pleasantly surprised by the first few posts
I cant see the pic .....but I can imagine .....yes, I was expecting some one to mention the wrong sort of logs
Got one of those brick makers, used it once or twice, now it resides in the shed, unused and unloved. Might have a try with a bucket of PVA and a load of sawdust.
Add some sodium chlorate weed killer to the mix for a nice orange glow. Dont do this really. Very dangerous. We used to make homemade fireworks by soaking newspaper in sodium chlorate solution then drying and shredding the paper.
I also add sawdust and as I have just acquired a load of coal for free ( some one I know was going to bin the coal bunker contents ) I also add the coal dust from the very bottom of the bunker!!!
We had one when I was a kid, not much heat, but if you want ash they produce a tremendous amount. Try going on freecycle, some peeps give away logs as long as you arn't greedy and pull up in a truck
