was tempted by a front air ride set up on ebay recently which went for £275 ....but it didnt have compressor, air tank controls etc ....and I didnt fancy getting the foot pump out each time I want to change height ....but I have been considering it for the distant future you get the best of both worlds, lowering it for getting it in the garage, and full height for .....well I would say wild camping but...... so has any one got it fitted? can you get bolt on units so you can return to stock? .....is it a good idea? ....stands back and awaits for and against arguments
get your bus finished and camp in it, you and @Moons would make a good team always looking for an excuse not to use the damn things...... air ride indeed!
lol nothing gets past me .....but thats not helping It's like an inflatable skirt that fits to the bottom of the bus to make it hover ....I believe the reduction in friction between the road and tyres increases fuel efficiency
I fitted air shocks on the rear a few months back. I didn't bother with a compressor as I don't intend to alter the pressure much, just to crank it up a bit when I use my bike rack, so I use a bike track pump - takes seconds. I haven't tried pumping it up to max so I can't say what the maximum and minimum heights are, but I could have a go this weekend if you want to know... the shocks are load levellers and the compressor kit is pretty simple I believe, press a button to adjust. I see no reason why you couldn't put them on the front, but I went for coilovers.
Gives about 3" - on mine that's from 19.5" to the wheel arch up to 22.5". I leave it around 20-20.5".
cheers its only a thought for a possible future modification when funds allow. was your kit bolt on? ....where did you get yours from and what sort of cost was involved? I like the idea of being able to adjust the heigh of the whole bus at the flick of a switch
I got them from Northern Auto Parts www.naparts.com in the states via eBay for about £80 all in I think with the pressure lines and postage. That was cheaper than Germany which was the other option. They're just normal shock fittings with additional air lines which I ran underneath to the tow hitch. I must tidy those up actually! Mine are Monroe load leveller MA 824. I looked up the weights for vehicles that they were listed for, length, width and eye fitting specs. Gabriel do similar kits but it took me a little research to find ones I could be sure would fit, and the Gabriels had less info. The pump kit was extra and I figured I would get it later if it all worked out and I felt the need for it. I felt the back end was just a little low with the turned splines, especially when carrying a heavy bike rack and two bikes, so I just add air as required to stiffen and raise. The set up might work on the front, but you would have to get a different length set (MA803 are a possible fit depending on ride height) and I'm very happy with my Gaz coilovers and don't need to change that set up.
