  1. There's two different types of sellers in the VW scene. Theirs the get rich quick sellers and theirs the normal folk who just want to trade parts to buy new parts to fix up their bus. Not that I have a problem with free enterprise but in reality most of the used stuff is a bit crusty and needs work to make it nice which costs more time and effort. I try to sell stuff cheap and buy stuff cheap but some people's stuff I see for sale I just think 'really' where do they get there prices from. Rant over

  2. Ive not sold owt for a while but like you Ive never percieved it as being a money spinner. Ive sold bits at a very reasonable rate to some folk who were very appreciative who needed bits and ive also sold to some people who wer downright rude and i wished i hadnt. For example (and it may be someone on here now) a pair of cab seats at Dub-freeze a couple of years ago. Heres yer money and not so much as a smile. Guess they were in a hurry.

Thanks to anyone on here who has helped me out btw.:)

I tend to give people parts if they need them, and get fleeced for the parts I need!

  5. I've never sold anything to make a profit - merely to put towards the cost of replacement items etc. Some stuff that's not worth much anyway I'd give away often more than not.

  7. i try to give stuff away most of the time too if its needed, only ask money for it if i really need it for something for mine... but i do see your point.
there is a lot of people around trying there best to rip everything from your wallet for parts that are in less than best condition,
i guess it just boils down to the fact some people are a lot less selfish than others...

If not it'll make an interesting paper-weight...

  11. I sold an Engine lid yesterday for £15 everything else i think i have given away but i have also been given a few things from members on here

  12. I've sold a few bits, but most of it gets given away- and most of the bits that I've bought or been given were from people that didn't seem too fussed about making a huge deal. Even if I need a part badly, it still feels a bit sour knowing the seller is just counting the pennies on his end, and not thinking about how nice it is to help folks out.

  15. ive got odds and sods spares/parts from po,nothing great but deffo not being used by myself ,whenever I get to a meet ,I am going to offer them ,cos I don"t need them /want them /didn't really pay for them(like I would need 4 extra headlamp rims ???) a spare glove box lid? an old but working water pump for a sink ,nope ,they have to go and they will>> bus freecycle,

  16. As in external lock? A locking one? I have one somewhere I'm sure...

I got a few boxes of spares when I bought van in 2006, I'm still giving stuff away now... Have never sold anything, always donated. Full FI system, Westy sink unit, cupboard handles etc. 091 box - that's a lie, it's still in the garage!

What has gotten to me is the lack of gratitude when I've posted stuff off to folks at my expense, I'm thinkin of 2 folk in particular. Neither even bothered to confirm theyd received goods. Would it be hard to send a thanks email?

i have given so much stuff away that i have lost count , it give's me a lot of pleasure to help someone out , strangely enough the dearest thing i have sold is the wheels off my van to the op of this thread .

As a bit of a downer , when i owned my previous bays i collected stacks of stuff , type four engines , 6 rib gearboxes carbs and on and on , i stored them in my father in laws cellar as it was dry and ideal , when he died my bro in law gave it all to the scrap man for £40 without so much as mentioning it to me :(

  18. dude that sucks!!! what a waste :(

My old man has a saying " if you weren't born with a brain , you will never grow one !" i find it odd the first time i ever heard him say it was the day he met my bro in law - ;)

  20. I agree, I've been given things by some lovely TLBers, but I also bought something from someone on here a while back which I paid through the nose for(roughly the going rate however grossly over priced by the "scene") had the said items been in good nick and and not look like a bus had parked on them I wouldn't of minded too much, photos don't always show items true condition. But you live and learn I hope:) if I can give away stuff or charge a minimal amount I will.
