Another silly question.....on heating

  1. My 2.0 Fi has the usual air blower and tubing over the engine and to be honest I want rid. Aim to purchase propex for next winter so, based on my knowledge of the system, which is minimal, I could ditch the fan from the engine bay with no ill effects to cooling (as it purely moves warm air to the cab).

Is this right? I don't want to do something I will regret later!!
If I can remove with no issues do I need to block the outlet which the tubing is attached to?
    Cheers

yeah, just remove it all and block the risers from the exchanger so hot air can't rise in, i am running exactly this way i used silver foil plumber tape to block the riser tops, the only time you'll miss the fan assist is on tickover.

  3. Wouldnt mind getting the relay for the fan off you if you do (or even the fan itself):)

  4. Cheers Rick, I hoped that would be the case.
Will change my ball joint boots at the weekend then MoT, once done I'll run without it for a bit, if it feels right I'll let you know Dicky!

don't forget to keep the ball joints pointing the way they were when you split them, they are "egg shaped" concentric? and you need to make sure they stay the same, if you spin them round the castor will be wrong, theres a little dent in each one (like a centre punch dot) make sure it's back the same way.

Why do you want to remove the fan? We dont have a fan in ours (73) but woul dlove one just to get some extra heat. We have Propex and its brilliant, can even use whilst driving.

  7. I have a spare fan relay you can have. I'm pretty sure it works ok.

  8. In truth Dean I think I just want to tidy the engine bay and it just gets in the way, may be wrong but i'll give it a go and see how things feel!

  9. Same reason I will be getting rid of mine eventually. A bit of de-cluttering.

I see the silver tube connects at the front. Where does the plastic one go?

  11. Hi Zed - at the oval fitting below the air filter - now I look at it , it looks even more odd than I thought!!
i'll do a bit of detective work at the weekend
    :)
