Another gearbox issue......

  1. Evening all. So this is what is happening,, Once I get in to 3rd gear a strange sort of grinding/ vibration feels like it is coming through the lever. It only happens when the throttle is open, it is quiet if I'm coasting. Odd!!!!. Answers on a post card, or better still here on this wonderful forum....

    Thanks...... Jeff...........

  2. By the way it's a 71 crossover.

  3. Can you get someone to travel in the back? See if they can hear any noise direct from the gearbox.

If you're lucky it could be an engine or gearbox mounting problem, or a gear linkage (bushes or similar) problem, transmitting vibration through to the lever.

If the noise is from the gearbox, under load and in the one gear only, it is likely to be gearbox bearings :(.

  4. Thanks for the reply. The sound only seems to be coming through the gear stick, so I'm guessing it's bushings. Better order some up....

  5. I have the same.

Does the noise stop if you hold the gearstick?

  6. Yeah it does a bit. I have booked it in with Jim at Veedubs in Welling.
