Alternator to Starter Motor cable

  1. In the process of trying to sort my charging issues I have noticed that the original cable in the loom has been cut and the replacement cable looks a bit on the thin side:eek:. What thickness or gauge should it be?

  2. Off the top of my head, the cable from alt to battery is 4mm2. It's "only" carrying the charging current, not the starter current.

  3. Assuming it's a Type IV, it should be 6.0mm2, red or red with white stripe.
Standard alternator outputs a max of 55A.

  4. It's a type 1

  5. Just looked at the wiring diags: I was wrong. As Marc said, 6mm2 from the alt. Vehicle Wiring Products will sell you some (although they don't have red/white in that gauge).
