I thought I could use this two-way switching junction box to add another light, and linked the new live, neutral and earth to the second, third and fourth from the left ...
Testing got me an existing two way switched light working fine as long as the new one was not on.
If I turned the new one on I got both lights flashing .......
I don't want to go down the trial and error route, even though I have an idea what has to be done, so anyone know what the trick is here?
I THINK I might have to tap in somewhere else because this junction box only has switching cables?...
    Much obliged!

Here's the ceiling rose for the two way in case that shows what type of circuit it is ...

The two core and earth bottom left comes from the ceiling rose of the existing light, where its working as a switching run

    I know what they are!
@Purple has I assume seen an error in the existing ... ?

Probably best to find that ceiling rose from above and link in the new live from there?

  8. Where is the "other light" going? Is it just in parallel with an existing one?

The existing is for a bedroom, the new is for the adjacent ensuite, so has to work independently of the existing

  11. Just buy some head torches instead.
Waterproof ones if used in the ensuite.

  12. If you just want it to turn on and off, you'll have to pick up the live feed from the existing lighting circuit and do the usual switchy-jiggery-pokery with the new light.

  13. True.

Or follow Greek wiring methods and leave a couple of live conductors sticking out of the wall "for later".

  17. The ceiling rose is conventional three plate wiring but the single black should have a brown tag on it to identify it as a switch wire. If you want the ensuite to be switched separately then you will have to connect to a permanent live, neutral and earth and install a second switch for the ensuite. I'm assuming at the moment you've inadvertently used one of the 2 way lighting switch wires (the strappers) instead.

Yes this is what I was hoping to avoid because the lives are harder to get at ... but the junction box only has switching wires so I was on a hiding to nothing ... "Nothing ventured" and all that.
    Thanks again :hattip:
