Aftermarket exhaust question

  1. What do you do with the fresh air pipes when you change to a aftermarket exhaust ? Has anybody got a photo

  2. If you've got a 4-into-1 and type 1 engine, you connect them directly to the heat exchangers, below the tinware. The exchanger "entrances" are still there, even if the exhaust has changed.

  3. So just get some new longer hoses and clamp direct ?

  4. You'll have the curve the hoses (I prefer the black cardboard ones) around the exhaust pipes - a bit tricky. They do scorch a bit, but otherwise they're fine.

If the tubes touch the exhaust , they scorch and abrade through in an extremely short time. If they rub on the tinware where they are fed through, they cut through in a short time...

While I was researching stainless exhausts, I found one model where they fitted woven fibreglass insulaton over the N02 and No4 tubes where they come out of the back of the engine to stop it fraying and half-melting the air tubes. Maybe that is a good idea..

The stainless exhaust I have uses larger diameter tubes in the 4:1 than the EMPI mild steel version , despite both being described as 'small bore', and these seem to be hotter than the mild steel version so the air tubes are harder to route so they keep clear of the exhaust.

  6. Im going to use silicone hose and add a rubber trim to the holes in the tinware
