For those of you using an AFR gauge, how long a lead do you need? Also any recommendations? I've got an oldish Innovate LM2 2 channel one in the MG which is fine but things move on and I've not kept track of them.
I got the long middle section one after a wire cutting incident... not sure you can splice that one.. I believe extending the wires at the guage end is ok though
I’ve got the AEM gauge. Made the gauge wires longer with some tow bar wire. This is acceptable. Works very well.
The wiring to the lambda sensor can be made longer. I have had slight issues with using 5 metres of additional random wiring for the data connection to the display on my PLX Devices setup, as it uses an inappropriate data transmission format (3.3 volt "TTL" levels)
I made up a 5 meter extension lead for my AEM gauge and it works fine. The oem Bosch connectors and pins/seals are available on fleabay or direct from auto-click.co.uk. I used 1mm 7 core trailer cable.
Thanks, I didn't know, or rather I hadn't bothered to search to see if the connectors are available. Trailer cable is great, I wired the back half of the MG racer with it.
I found connectors thanks to Gooders and I’ve bought PVC sleeve and coloured 0.5mm cable to match the original and I’ll made a new loom 6m long. Connector plugs from auto-click.co.uk https://www.auto-click.co.uk/index.php?route=product/search&search=1928404669 and https://www.auto-click.co.uk/index.php?route=product/search&search=3B0 973 813 Cable and sleeve from autoelectricsupplies.co.uk https://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/product/70/category/114 and https://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/product/338/category/66
I'm on my third sensor. They aren't covered so I didn't see s problem messing with the cable. AEM refused so supply a kit with a long cable but would have been delighted to sell me a cable in addition for the best part of £100. Shysters!
I spoke to the guy at AEM in the States he was very helpful. It was the gauge that failed not the sensor in my case. I think they have issues covering the sensor as it’s made by a third party, wouldn’t think it’s a genuine Bosch though.
I recently fitted a £22 five wire sensor from China in place of a Bosch that would have cost over £50 when my sensor started messing around when the choke was on - the reading would swing over to ultra lean, but after a few hours on the motorway, it would start working again. My PLX display failed when a 12 volt wire melted across the 7 and 3.3 volt wires in the harness coming from the back of the bus when I set fire to it.
