Advice on replacing a full rear arch.

  1. Looking at my bus today, the rear arch has holes in through to the load area, the edge above the chassis section has pretty much rotted all along the seam where it joins the fuel tank area and the lower edges front and rear have gone.

If I chop out the arch then unpick the seams where it joins the surrounding panels, will a full replacement arch go straight in to the space vacated or does it need a lot of work fitting it around the existing metalwork?

Also, whilst the bus is on its side with no outer sill and middle panel would it be wise taking any more strength out of the vehicle or should I wait until she's back on her wheels?

  2. Dont know about the arch but oast experience has taught me not to take too much off at the same time. I know its often easier to take loads out however try to do it a panel at a time. Its too easy to start losing line up and things start to move and twist not having strength. On the factory they wouls have had jigs to line all this , after 40 years on top of rust you have metal fatigue, stresses and hence alignment can go walkies....
