Advice For New Clutch Please

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Dr Ben, Mar 3, 2012.

  1. Hi

I plan to investigate and then probably change my vans clutch as it judders when changing gear and pulling away when hot. (The conduit and bowden tube thing are ok) I need to check out the fuel tank and change some perished rubbers too. Definitely I need the large rubber from the tank to filler neck and would apreciate it is anyone can tell me where to get one of these!

If I am changing the clutch should I be doing the flywheel oil seal as well? Is this an easy job?

Also is it a case of just measuring the diameter of the existing unit to know if I need a 200mm or a 215mm clutch kit?

    Thank you

    Ben

  3. Waddling oil? Meant "widdling". Damn autocorrect .

  4. Clutch should have size stamped on the pressure plate. Have you adjusted the clutch properly? Could just be a case of incorrect adjustment.

Heritage do the tank end filler hose. I know others do it too, I'm recommending the heritage one as that's what I bought and it was very good quality

Have you got a T4 engine? The rubber engine mounts between engine bar and block have a habit of falling apart - you can't easily tell from looking at them but you can once the engine's out and not resting on them. This is another possible cause of clutch judder.

and another... you've lost the front gearbox fixing. Usually accompanied by the front of the gearbox tapping on the bottom of the van.

  7. Thanks, I don't think it leaks much oil at all really so will leave the seal alone. Chauffeur indeed! I agree though there are some in Winchester who probably do!

Zed, thanks it's a 1600 stock except Weber icts, it has a good front gear box mount and engine mounts new a few years ago so thinking must be clutch! If not then at least it's been checked and I can replace filler rubber properly!

    Thanks all

    Ben
