Adjusting tappets

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Paul Jones, Nov 6, 2021.

  1. Hi Guys
Hope you can help me, have spent the day trying to set my tappets 1, 2 and 4 are fine but number 2 the exhaust opens so I can set it but intake won't, it will open when I'm adjusting another side. If that makes sense.

    Thanks Paul

  2. What order are you doing them in? By “open”, do you mean the valve is shut (rocker wobbling)?

  3. Have you mixed up top dead centre for no 1 cylinder with no 3?

Sounds like your adjusting in the wrong order , what method are you using ?

The inlet valves are towards the middle of the head. Rotate the engine until the inlet valve has opened then closed again. Keep rotating a few more degrees until the piston reaches the top of its stroke, then adjust the tappets
