As above gap betwix wheel and top of indicator housing seems ma hoosive. Read up it should be 2mm? Would explain horn not worky and no indicator cancelling working, any tips on raising this up or lowering the wheel ?! Fanks! Will post pics when I get to see the bus in daylight again. Also do I need a puller to get it off (ooh er misses) and I guess torque wrench to get it back on.
Yes the gap should be 2mm. what Year is your bay? There are clamps that tighten around the column holding the housing in place. it does account for the indicators not cancelling. However, this does not account for the horn not working. You might indeed need a puller to get the steering wheel off without damaging it. If it is an earlybay style wheel take care they are like rocking horse pooh. There are at least 3 different types so a pic will help.
Is that with 2 thin stalks with flat paddles at the ends, a bit like oars? If so there's 2small screws that clamp the 2 halves of the stalk assembly together. Loosen these off then wiggle the lot up and re tighten The early wheels are tough to get off, but you might not need to. I've got a metal disc with a section cut out that goes under the wheel and a big old 2 prong puller I use to get rhe wheels off.
It's a late column, it's held in position by a 6mm Allen key bolt that you can see through the hole in the plastic housing at knee height, undo the bolt adjust the position of the column and tighten the bolt up, it will stop the horn working as it won't make contact when the ring on the steering wheel touches the contact on the column, the steering wheel will come of easy peasy
I had the switches off and the steering wheel to change the plastic shroud that was damaged, I did adjust it at the time cos it was all good at the mot, shouldn't slip really
Stop being a girl, its already loose, pull it up while twisting back and forward and swearing Then tighten it a bit
Ok so had a quick go this afternoon when i got back from hospital... I took out the bolt but couldn't move the unit up down wiggle it or anything.(well only had one good arm to use at the moment). Help/ tips appreciated thanks!
You may need to put a drift underneath (onto the lock casting) and gently tap it up using a hammer. Then hold it in position while tightening the bolt. Make sure the steering lock is free. You will need three hands to do this
yup did all that, but like I said will try when I can use my right arm as it was a bit tricky with only one.. ta!
