Accelerator Pedal Help?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by [:DSbS:], Jun 5, 2014.

  1. I'm replacing the accelerator pedal and linkage in Tortuga with the set-up and I've hit a few snags.
1st Both the 'S' link and hinge are a really tight fit to the pedal - there's no free movement of either! Is this just likely to be due to thick paint? The parts don't seem distorted or anything...
2nd I'm using the 1973-76 pedal and spring kit from JK, but the long arm of the spring doesn't reach where the 'S' link attaches - is it supposed to?
3rd Where should the hinge screw to the floor? I'm replacing a hasp and staple style hinge (!) and there's no clear indication of the position of the pedal. Should it be angled slightly toward the RHS or parallel to the length of the van?
4th (and most stupid) What grease should I use on the long linkage bar (14a) inside the tube and should there be seals/ grommets at either end of the tube?
Sorry for the long post *nervous grin*

I fitted a new pedal linkage kit , no after market stuff you buy these days go fully smoothly , the S link you mention being stiff Yes ! i had the same , nearly thought about putting the old one back on , they have made them to stout , file it down evenly with a fine file then smooth up with fine emery paper oil it and it should be OK , my pedal when putting my foot down wouldn't return properly but was OK after doing that .

I put copper slip on my linkage bar tube .

  4. Cheers @Faust! I'll take a file and some emery paper to the 'S' link and hinge then and leave the pedal alone.
    ...and purchase some copperslip :)

Grease or oil would still do though
