A pillars reattached to the inner valance: and deformation trial fitted to check it fits: N/S Cab door back on so I can repair the a pillar lip for the front panel (last repairs before I can get the front and def panels back on!):
Spent a few hours this morning practising my door whispering skills. After much faffing and adding a 1.2mm shim to the bottom hinge I was finally happy. Now I have a reference point for repairing the a pillar lip on that side. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Driver’s door re-hung and both A pillar lips repaired. I just need to make up some small repairs for the bulge section on both pillars and they’re done: Also zinc primed the inner windscreen panel, hoping to epoxy everything over the weekend ready for the front panel (Im not going to bare metal the a pillars and air box, I'll just scuff them up and treat any surface rust)!
Bulge section of the a pillars repaired today: Bare metalled and zinc primed the inside of the inner valance: Epoxy mastic on it all tomorrow morning including the front and def panel and I’m just about there with the front end.
My resto was thorough and see rust kill kill kill, but this is a step above, shame you can't peel open the roof and pillars you've saved to stop the rust 100%
Cheers mate. Hoping it'll all be worth it. It'll all get cavity wax at the end. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Are you sanding to provide a key before spraying the epoxy mastic? I only ask as Paul used it in my engine bay and it's lifting of in little sheets on the battery tray It appears it needs a good mechanical grip to stick properly.
Yeap I went over everything with some 180 and then scotchbrite where I couldn't get paper into. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Looking awesome James.. just got the roof bellows off mine now to make a start on the inside.. hopefully get the front started when the purse refills and I can order the panels lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Looking good. Is epoxy mastic 2k based? It seems to be the in thing to use but i've no idea what it is.
It's a 2 pack product but doesn't contain the nasty isocyanate. Super tough coating that bonds to bare metal. I've been doing it over Zinc primer as Bilt Hamber said it offers further protection. Can be left as it is or painted over Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I've been using it pretty extensively. All the underside is covered in front it. Anywhere you can't see will have it. Hoping to do bodywork with proper auto epoxy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Deformation panel welded in tonight and applied some seam sealer to the seams which will be tricky to get to once the front is on. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Aiming for Saturday. Want to get some 2K on the back of the front panel and the inner structure tomorrow as ill never have as good access as I do now. I have a front windscreen seal so I can trial fit the windscreen while I'm there (just enough to feel confident it will fit before I weld the front on). Can't wait! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm sure yours will go well, you've invested time in getting everything lined up good We have Majors to do in the coming months, they aren't as bad as they look to be fair, we did the one on Gusbus ok (again learning from our mistakes for this time).
