I'm hoping flattery has caught your attention. Our boiler is due for a service next week so I thought I should turn it on to check it still works. I lit the pilot light and then turned the heating on for a few minutes. I've never looked at it whilst running before but noticed the burner has quite an orange flicker. Question is, is this normal/ok? It's an ideal Mexico cf 100 if it makes any difference..... A video: https://photos.app.goo.gl/FkSaUqvtaKoacoXdA And some pics Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk
A service should sort that. Is it floor standing with a balanced flue? A big square one? Have you got a carbon monoxide alarm? If so you could put it in the boiler room. If not, why not? . They are worth having. A floating yellow flame is usually a sign of lack of oxygen for complete combustion. Is the flue clear? Any corrosion? It could just be dust etc if the boiler not been used for awhile and it will burn off. The person doing the service should be able to sort it by doing the service, or spot if there are any problems.
There is an alarm in the utility room (I assume it works as it goes off if I run the van and leave the garage door open ) the boiler is in a cupboard in there. It smelt a bit fumey when running but nothing from the alarm. I opened the outside door just in case it was airflow related but it made no difference. Hopefully nothing to worry about then! It won't be switched on until after the service. It is the big floor standing thing, no idea about the flue though. It goes out through the flat roof, I suppose I could climb up and check if it's clear but can't see any corrosion. Thanks for replying, hopefully it won't be condemned it's 25 years old and refuses to die Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk
