*******ed off, My car has been recovered by the Police's recovery agent 14 miles away, as the handbrake had failed and rolled 30 yards down the road outside my house into a junction (steep hill where I live and have always parked it in gear), It hurts more for the fact that I see them putting it on the back of the truck but didnt clock it was my car, It was dark and I thought it was an A3 (my car is a golf). The privilege is likely to cost me £250 for recovery and storage now, the bastards.

Why didnt the police think to attempt to notify me as it was outside my house! :(

So tomorrow when I can get my car back I'll find out if it has been hit by another vehicle, or damaged by a lampost etc, or damaged by the recovery company.

  2. you would have thought they would have done a dvla check to check if it had been nicked... :-

I thought it would have been much simplier to knock on your door...

  3. There's money in towing away ..There are some steep hills in Luton so it must make up a fair bit of income

  6. my Mini was nicked outside work a while ago and when I spoke to the busies around 8 o'clock that evening, I asked them specifically to ring me any time, night or day, wherever it turned up. As it happened, they'd found it about a couple of hours later, 2 miles from work, burnt out, on a patch of wasteland. The day after I got a call around dinner time from a recovery firm saying that I had to pick it up, or be charged daily storage  When I arrived, they insisted that I pay cash...no cheques or cards...£180! This was about 6 years ago, so imagine how much that would be in today's money...a few years later I read that the same recovery firm were being investigated for dodgy dealings and several 'unnamed' police officers were implicated in the scam...THE TW*TS... no word of a lie

  7. Tower's and clampers are all satan's spawn

  8. Its all about money, there is no profit in notifying you outside the house. :(

  9. truthfully (though no consolation , i know) thats a crime investigated/solved on their monthly statistics , and a pat on the head back at the stn !they do have targets to meet, and they are contracted to call removals/recovery > they SUCK,BIGSTYLE!

  10. How could they knock on your door if it wasn't outside your house? :p

  11. if the towing ageng/contractor was on site before the police they will just lift it as this is how they make there money.

if the local bobby had seen it he may have called on the door.

the agents will race to the car and lift it ASAP so they can get the pot of gold. i.e. your credit card and £250 off you for 10 mins work.

  17. And of course the vehicle deffo was not stolen ? was/had not been "entered " and handbreak released by a malcontent? why ,people continue to call these, and situations like these "accidents" i dunno, there has been a failure of parts, fitting, maintenance/repair /use off, if a commercial vehicle had been involved in same, they would have gone thru all previous servicing sheets to establish who screwed up, and fitter, fitters bosses would have been for the high jump.A potential crime had been committed and the police must approach said situation with that formost in mind. And the comment "common sense" and "police " used in same sentence ?not really.Remember, they prevaricated over whether to enter a body of water to save a citizen ,a.n.other dude(member of public) went in, saved him.(the thin blue line ........)

Too many money making scams attached to police work privatising i'm afraid -- police can't handle everything so it gets subbed out - result is we get ripped off with no come backs to the private company's .

The thing is ( and they know it ) we the law abiding public will cough up -- criminals don't , its a full on racket this subbing work out lark , the police are handicapped by work load and avoiding litigation - imo

Just noticed this had been bumped,

I didnt get fined for a faulty handbrake, I think I'd just not put it on enough as the handbrake was still on when I collected the car.

Didnt get a knock on the door as its still registered at my parents address, but I'm gutted none of the neighbours noticed, as we all know who's cars belong to each other,

Took it on the chin and moved on, *******ed off as £250 is a lot of cash to lose, but I'll make sure I'm £250 up somewhere else ;)
