A couple of issues

  1. Hello long time reader 1st time poster !!
    I have a couple of problems that maybe someone could give me some advise about please
    We have a 73 bay westfalia continental with a 1600 engine i have just fitted twin weber carbs overall runs quite well and having only one or two minor hiccups over the last couple of years we have owned him
    My first issue is yesterday nice drive out to the seaside saw a parking space and dived into it sudden sharp turn and the engine dies and refuses to start. I work out that there's no spark we carry a few spares so try a different coil and earl starts 1st time the old coil is a flame thrower and is only 2 years old do they fail so suddenly and can I test it with a multimeter ? To prove it was the coil at fault
    My second problem if it is a problem after fitting the webers and all the extra power lol I decided I needed a oil temperature gauge so I purchased a vdo oil temperature gauge with a sump plug sender it all seems to work ok but the gauge has never made it past 50c even after a 60 mile run including so steep hills ,I've done the dipstick test and that's no that hot it's not even that warm is this normal ? One other thing it does have a deep sump fitted so it runs with 5ltrs of oil in it

  2. You don't really need a deep sump plus with the cool air running over the sender so nor surprised it never goes above 50 ,
    Flame thrower coils are prone to failure again standard blue or normal coil is fine
     
  3. You can test the coil by measuring the resistance across the terminals - you'll have to google or wait for a better reply however to see what the readings should be

  5. That's great thanks I've tested the coil and there's nothing on the primary coil at all so it's dead

  6. Flamethrowers don't have a great reputation for reliability. Try a stock, cheap Brazilian Bosch.
