Ha ha , brilliant. She's not young either is she? Inspirational woman, and a very good read.

Give me a shout if you head down to Port Eliot festival next year, it's something I've always meant to go to.... I'll meet you in the Gin tent for a couple :)
I'm turning 50 next year, and fully intend to do as much in the camper as possible to celebrate; adventure, travel, festivals, and just plain camping!

    Morning @Ermintrude :)

How about you remortgage your house on interest only and rent it out. You can be an ethical landlady. I kept my house when I moved in with sarah and rent it out. I’ve not upped the rent for a few years and have always had happy tenants.

When you’ve done this you can buy this:

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/53ft-tra...819543?hash=item1eecad9c17:g:b-8AAOSwTi5bOmJk

Then I can come and visit and be jealous! Then you may have more freedom to do what you want with somewhere to come back to live and an income/ capital investment in your house. :)

This may be actually my dream!!

In fact get a boat, keep the van and live by the @theBusmonkey s and do what they do.

Or, better plan, live in their boat while they’re away, then travel, live in your van while they’re home!! Win win.

Ps what about your cat? We delayed going to Spain for a few years as couldn’t take Merlin as he hated cars and didn’t want to leave him. He showed his contrary cat side by being given 6 months by the vet at age 16 due to kidney problems and lasting to a majestic 19! :)

Please shut up about boats MC, it’s become a bit of an obsession of mine recently. I keep dreaming of buying a 40ft yacht and learning to sail, and one day sail over the horizon!

I’m managing the urge by ignoring boat talk mostly!

I think this may be my dream a bit too!
And definitely the bit about doing what @theBusmonkey and @Mrs Busmonkey do !!
But that's kind of why we all own campervans isn't it? When I had my 'oh god, where's this all going? I need to do something, make changes, get out and do stuff- not just overseas travel when I live in a perfectly beautiful island already, etc etc' (mid life crisis) moment a few years back, I decided that I'd buy myself an old Ford, preferably convertible, and get out to see the country. Then it dawned on me that I was getting a bit long in the tooth to do this with my tent, so the idea of the campervan was formed. It's freedom (albeit not particularly fuel economic freedom, and with the possibility of reliability issues...) but freedom none the less. Up sticks and go. And a wonderful community of other owners to go with it.

Back when I was a student, in the type of rented accommodation that necessitates covering the mould on the walls with posters, I had a small picture of someone standing on a mountain top, probably with a sunset in the background. Underneath it was the caption "Some people dream of great things, whilst others stay awake and do them". It's worth a try, eh?

  5. I did my 50th at the Glasto where the Stones were playing, neatly ticking off two life boxes!
Will def give you a shout if I find I can afford Port Eliot tickets. The Sipsmith waterside bar is fabulous! It IS a trifickly posh festival though. Everyone harks from Kensington, arrives in a Landy and is called either Tarquin or Samantha.

    Ha ha , I love a bit of posh-watching.
….I go to the Larmer Tree festival every year, there's a heck of a lot of Tabitha & Marcus types too, top hats with peacock feathers, and those kids pushchairs that cost more than my car, but I love it - and I look on it as a public service, they all need to mix with the hoi polloi every so often :D

  7. Am loving all the fabulous ideas and suggestions, keep ‘em coming!

I’ve just been asked to give a presentation about my woolly wares (wears?). Eek! It’s not the presenting, 20 years of lecturing and I’m very comfortable with that, it’s the fact that I need to get more stuff made!

New doors opening maybe, doors I haven’t yet considered but one things for sure, going back through the revolving door isn’t an option. Onwards and upwards, maybe sidewards but not backwards!

‘If you always do what you always did, you’ll always get what you always got’.

  13. So Sarah @scrooge95 and lisa @Ermintrude are both going to be made redundant next year, both have houses, both have campervans, both like travel, both like alcohol, neither wants to be a lone female traveller am I the only one doing the maths here.......

    Campervan convoy road trip.........

If I were you I would not sell the house - but I know that the difficulty is finding a reliable tenant.
Good luck with whatever decision you make - most regrets in life are about what you didn't do rather than what you did.
I'm in the autumn of my life and I haven't started on my bucket list yet - don't leave it too late!!

  15. Exactly! No regrets. Every experience, good or bad shapes us, even when afterwards they hurt like hell.

‘If only’ are two of the saddest words.

I’d always taken the big steps before

This last year was about living, loving and laughter and it was good to get ‘me’ back. I need to carry on that trajectory. I don’t do life plans (@PopTop has a perfect take on this) but think this next chapter needs some groundwork putting in so that I can be ready to embrace opportunities and avoid those didn’t do regrets.

Sod it I'm in! I like the idea of a narrowboat, a friend of mine moved onto one earlier in the year and is travelling all over the place. I've done a few days here and there with him an enjoyed the life.

So let's all chip in and buy a TLB boat! @Ermintrude can live on it and be in charge of its destination and the rest of us get a few days break every now and then:beer:

See, told you I'd come up with a plan:D

I'll have the half facing the sea!

  19. No way, that’s the prettiest half too. You can have the ugly over-designed half
