'78 RHD Devon Bay - heater lever fitting

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by OllieR, Sep 26, 2014.

  1. Hi all,

    Hoping for a little guidance!

My RHD bus seems to have had a replacement dashboard which was not originally RHD??!

I also found a set of heater levers in the glove box along with two old ones 1 red/1 blue). The new ones are all plastic (x 3 - 2 red and 1 blue). There are also 2 metal inserts (not 3?).

    Does this sound right?

It is probably a simple job but because I didn't buy the levers or disconnect the old I am not quite sure how I would actually attach to the cable ends behind the dash!

    Any tips much appreciated!

    Best

  2. For a '78, two red, one blue is correct. The plastic levers should have long flat shafts that just push on to the heater levers - easy peasy.

Sounds like your bits (and the lever assembly) may be for an earlier bay. How many levers in the dash do you have?

  3. Cheers for the reply.

Currently no levers in the dash that I can see! Seems one old red and one old blue have been put to one side. The other 3 in the glove box are new. All are all plastic. Two metal levers (look like inserts alongside)

Will check behind for any evidence of metal levers as maybe there is one still back there.

You could well be right about the assembly. Good to know that the plastic bits are just supposed to be a slot on cap.

Will go and have another nose under the dash!

Alll this effort for a a heater system that may not even work!

    Cheers

  4. The heating'll work at treat once you fix everything up, end to end

Take the instrument panel off, and look what's behind the heater slots. You should have three metal levers. The plastic hobbies just push on to these on a later Bay.
