  1. Thought I'd say hello and what an interesting and informative forum this is.

So this is my Type 2, which is a semi converted panel van and it was my first car. [IMG]
Brought back in 1998 from an undesirable gentleman, who had fitted a 1600 single port, without the copper compression gaskets between the manifolds and heads causing the van not to idle, but that's another story.
I restored it back in 2002/2003. Bottom six inches, sprayed a non VW colour, a very nice interior was designed and installed by Bernard Newbury and it has sailed through every MOT since.
It does about 600 miles a year and really is just used as a utility vehicle, there's no rock n roll bed, or fridge or any kind of camping gear it just got carpet and rubber runners.
Currently running a 1641 for the last 10 years; however, I've notice oil spots on the rear and oil being forced past the crank pulley, so I've concluded increased crank case pressure due to worn bores / piston rings. Also it doesn't like idling when cold. I Improved the crank case breathing with a bigger oil breather kit but to no avail.

So the reason I stumbled across this forum is I'm thinking of doing the Subaru ej20 conversion. Having my gearbox refurbished with a longer 4th gear installed. I read years back that the gearbox is good for 150bhp, so that's the reason for the ej20 and not the ej25. Please let me know if I'm wrong with the rating of the box, as I'm currently working out a budget to complete these works myself.

  12. Thanks. Yes the front panel should have the square indicators either side of the cold air intake. However I wanted a slightly smoother look, so long before Amazon, eBay and Aliexpress, I got my dad to buy a pair of Chrysler Plymouth Prowler side repeaters when he was working in the states. At the time, it seemed that the Mondeo side repeaters were in fashion, but I felt they weren't quite in proportion to the rest of the front and that's when I saw the repeaters on the Prowler.
