The engine in Marmalade, according to the guy I bought it from, hasn't ran for 3ish years. I beg to differ as the fuel in the tank and filter has turned to black tar. I've not attempted to start it, but today, I took plugs out and put a drop of oil down the barrels from the pics. What would you guys say engine condition is? It’s a minefield when you buy stuff .. that ain’t running you don’t know what you are buying , Personally I think any dealer is out for themselves, They all give you the chat You have to presume that you have bought a lemon , And you have to presume that what you bought is kuffed Sometimes you might get lucky and get a fair deal but I have NEVER met anyone in this Volkswagen world that was really honest and fair… especially nowadays Nipper , Like matey said put some oil down Put a good battery on and fresh petrol clean everything and wind Tf out of it You never know
The oil is very clean. I've not changed it yet. Also, I was told to remove the injectors and send them away for cleaning, and I need to flush the fuel system I assume the fuel pump will be knackered Sent from my SM-G981B using Tapatalk

If it hasn't run for a long time, it's possible that the FI module could have issues and will need a clean/repair.
If it's any encouragement the beetle we once bought had sat for 12 years and fired up with fresh petrol. It fired up so we did an engine service and carried on. It could have done with a lot of seals changing and it it was out of the car I would have. Those were original 1965 seals though, a bit older than yours. lol. But Is that rust on one of the plugs?
For the impending pain you will go through trying to get an old FI system up and running have you considered banging an set of new Weber (not copies) ICT’s on there?

I’ve got quite a few running that have been sat , nothing much to injectors , if it turns by hand i would Chuck some plugs in it and see what it does , fuel pump should be fine , but i would run a separate tank temporarily will mean any goo won’t go back to tank
