  1. 5A is fine for your lights, 10A (almost 2.5kW) is likely fine for your sockets. Do you really need more?

No, I was gonna do 3 curcuits 1 for charger, 1 for van interior and a 3rd for the awning

  3. To be honest the ampere rating of the circuit doesnt really matter provided you use the right size of cable and also that either a fused spur or socket outlet , hence use of a fused plug top, protects the device itself. I know it would give closer double pole protection for overload but its arguable. The socket you are connecting up to is rated at 16 amps max and experience shows a lot are less than that so you wont be using any more than that! As ive said previously all my stuff is on a single breaker (rcbo) which is double pole and rated at 16 amps. I then have one radial circuit which does fridge, charger and propex (2 kw on mains) fridge and charger are minimal on mains. A couple of amps tops. After that ive nothing else other than phone chargers and the like but i have on occasion taken a toaster and leccy kettle. Ive never tripped a breaker yet but im sure if i had the propex on full chat, made a brew and stuck the toaster on id be close to the limit (low wattage appliances, not domestic).

  4. Just a thought but why not stump us all by having a splitter on your mains cable leading to a tent unit in the awning and save yourself a circuit.

    I like your thinking.

  6. It means you have power in the awning even if youve driven off for the day. I used to do this when we went away for long holidays with the kids. The fridge and all the leccy stuff stayed in the awning so if anyone stayed behind they were self sufficient.

That was in the days when i took a full camping set up in the trailer. God i hated packing up from that, frickin nightmare.

I had a trailer with my first camper, it just got filled because it was there. Soon got rid of that!

  8. Shared experience for many id guess.

I suppose it depends what you fill it with. :)

    Ermmmmm....
I'm planning on taking one until I can afford a camping one, it will add to the millionty other things, as for the trailer I plan to leave mine loaded and the van as empty as possible so I can hitch up and go and the van isn't loaded while its in daily use, the trailer will sit in the garage waiting.

  13. That's what I do. :)

are sites not aware you have 2 leads plugged in?
on my bay i fitted a waterproof socket to the outrigger right under my sliding door and fed the awning that way.

  15. To them, it looks like one lead ;)

I run a cable from the EHU point into the awning.
    Then there is a splitter.
One goes to the fridge, the other to the bus.

To their eyes, it just looks like I'm running the cable through the awning! :)

ahhh, i hadn't thought of the splitter idea..... good thinking that would save me mounting a socket under the van and wiring a curcuit for the said socket, so i can probably get the smaller 2 way consumer unit i linked earlier in the post.

  20. yes, if your going to do it right (or as right as it can be if there's a splitter involved
