I was referring to the fact that when he did his self build he cut the hole out on the sliding door too big
Brill Leon. Fab base van. I chickened out of doing the windows on our van, though there are some great “How to” videos out there, on the Kiravans site for eg. Got our converter to do the lot just to get it done and dusted.
It's insured with A-PLan / Howdens as a Van in conversion, so expensive for the first year, then it should drop down to something reasonable after it's convereted. Reminds me, I need to do an update.
Update time: It seems like every job is 5 hours thinking and 1 hour doing We have a Maxair fan fitted. One of the easier jobs. Also fitted a mushroom vent for the toilet/bathroom - it ended up being easier to drill lots of smaller holes as the 125mm bit I borrowed was a bit blunt - think I will need to buy one for fitting the heater. The two 175w solar panels are on, mounted on a custom rack built from Unistrut - quite pleased with it. Though it does need painting a bit better, the Smoothrite did not paint on very well at all.
Heather did an amazing job on the profile for the bulkhead surround - not sure if we are going to stain it or put carpet on it yet. A door with gas struts will be added later on. Still need to insulate inside the shelf area.
Isn’t unistrut galvanised? If so it needs an etch primer before paint or it will lift and peel off over time.
The framing for the walls and ceiling took a lot of thinking. Helped by using a Pocket Joint jig/tool.
Finally, the van is starting to look like a camper inside. We have a ceiling - tongue and groove cladding painted with Snow finish Osmo Wood Wax. The screws got replaced yesterday with some black pan heads - they didn't turn up in time to start the ceiling.
Next job is the walls, bed and bathroom. Oh, and fitting this jump seat - thanks to @Ozziedog and @Baysearcher for the TLB courier getting the Heavy Duty Unwin Rail to me
Forgot - the nightmare Reverse Camera. It has two cameras, but on the first one they sent me only one cameras was working. I spent at least 4 hours racking my brain thinking I had wired it all up wrong. When the new one turned up, I had both working within 10 minutes - glad I only sent the cemarea back and didn't pull all of the wiring out. Two cameras? One is on full time and acts as a rearview mirror, when the van is put into reverese it switches to the downward facing camera for manouvering.
Doh!! That could be why it went on so bad. I should have got the place to powder coat them - but I wanted the strut quickly and they had it all ready in an hour.
My boat / your camper - we're doing the same insulate and panel out job. I thought about T&G but it shrinks over the years and annoys me. When I did my office/summerhouse I used about half a km of the stuff!
