I'll get the rest of the corner off tomorrow night, weather permitting, It looks like a few stitches around the light aperture need carefully unpicking And a huge blob by the rear valence Next job for the evening is this! All grain clone of Old Peculiar barreled in July.
What a mess The bottom of the D post is a bit crusty & in need of some work The edge of the battery tray needs some work, there's also a smallish hole in it towards the front but I think it's saveable.
Too much rain, too dark in the evenings... No fun! Tidied up the botton of the inner part of the d post Made up a section & welded it in.
Bored with the rain purchased a trolley off ebay & used some old BBQ parts to make getting the welder out less of a task. But now more important jobs..... Make beer!
I know this sounds like a daft question - but would an aircraft fitter from nowadays be any good? I'm only asking as I don't think modern planes have much steel in them to weld - I thought it was a lot of composites and glue or mechanical fasteners? Are they allowed to weld planes?
I think his welding skills were from earlier days & classic cars. Im sure he said all tools were air or hand powered when working on the planes due
Wow, its been a while. More rot revealed.. Make up some sections tomorrow & if it doesnt rain cut out the grot & weld in. Maybe even fit the new outer valance.
Removed the mile deep filler from the side, welded some washers & pulled out most of the dent with a slide hammer. A couple more & a bit of tweeking and it will be reasonably presentable.
Finally got round to the sliding door. The inner wasnt too bad, just a couple of sections needed letting in. The outer skin from JK is loads better han the one from GSF
Long time no work! Dicided to wire wheel the cargo floor prior to a coat of rustoleum & interior refit... Then decided to investigate the row of patches welded over.... Yay trapped rust.
Well theres the nearside middle sill, on the floor. The inner sill is a cover sill, but is covering nothing, the ends of the top hats have been extended to make it fit.
Those ear defenders ^^^ are not great. Better ones are available for £20-£30. The yellow ones are what are handed out on building sites and barely meet H&S requirements.
