2.0 fuel injection to Weber Carb conversion..pump question??

  1. Hi, all...I am currently undertaking a conversion from the original and endlessly troublesome fuel injection system on my '79 2.0l bus to a new twin-choke Weber...I was just wondering whether anyone has any experience of what to do with the orignal electric fuel injection pump...i.e. is it too stong for the carb or should I replace it with a lower pressured pump, or is there any other "trick" to make it happen and prevent the carb flooding completely...?

  2. In my opinion, even if you decide to get rid of the Fuel Injection, that carb would be at the bottom of the replacement list.

    You can’t use the fi pump. It’s about ten times too powerful. I’ve been using a Facit cube pump for about ten years. About 40 quid.

    Twin carbs are the way to go. Eurocarb seem to be the best place for parts and advice.

  5. Hi, thanks for the info..I have my reasons for fitting the Weber...the problem is purely what electric pump to use.
     
  6. ..and roughly what PSI would be required for the Weber, from your experience, re getting the right Facit pump?

    ICT's love around 2.5 to 3 psi, great carbs and not over complicated either

    Here’s what Aircooled.net has to say: Centermount Progressives NEED intake heat, and lots of it. This is why a progressive on a T4 WILL NOT WORK. It’s so bad and unfixable, we do not even sell the kits that are available for the Type 3 or Type 4 engines. The intake volume is too large, and there is no easy way to get the intake manifold and runners heated up. It will not work well, please do not ask, because the answer is “get dual carbs”. Nuff’ Said.

  11. yes, i undstand all that..however, this only really applies to vehicles that are in a cold air environment..the carb is going on a vehicle that is located in a warm climate zone..all year round temperature 24-28 c..other conversions of this nature have worked well....

  12. And mine has worked fine in the UK for the 6 years that it’s been in Cyril....

    Ignore the ‘Ooooo, you can’t do that crowd’ it works fine. It’s an old work van used for leisure not a sports car!

    Dont forget to keep your FI bits. A megasquirt FI setup based on the stock FI system injectors and pipework is probably the best replacement for the original FI.

    All carburettors are a worse compromise than a properly working FI and a centremount is the worst of those compromises.

  15. If you want to pass off your fi parts I’d be interested if they have run recently. Why is the system troublesome?
