After numerous attempts with the strap , Holding a starter onto the flywheel and bolting it to a bell housing and starter -still wouldn't turn it enough to kick it into life

  6. Thanks to everyone for another fab TE. Good to see everyone again and meet some new faces too. Special thanks to mini-Dazza (Courtney) and the mini-Robos for ensuring Amelia had such a great time (she's currently fast asleep on the sofa). I'm pleased to have downed two pints of Doom bar before it ran out, especially after the exertions of the day... had to tighten up a screw so was knackered!

Just reporting in after another cracking weekend. @bernjb56 a million thank you's for the gift of the gearstick extension, it's bloody fantastic, I wish I'd got one years ago. It's like driving a proper modern car now with the gearstick perfectly positioned for smooth easy gearchanging. Brilliant :)
As usual a smashing bunch of lovely people who just happen to have a liking for VW Vans.

A great weekend, shouting instructions at Simon and trying not to do my back in.
Did not do a lot to my bus, but kept finding myself doing 75mph and having to slow down going home.
Made it back to Southampton exactly when the Satnav said it would be. 137 miles in 2 hours 30 mins with one petrol stop at Watford Gap services. Max oil temperature about 106 degrees after racing all the Golfs with extreme camber down the A43 and A34. (They cant go very fast before they start pogoing around with no suspension travel)

The little circle bits are valve stem oil seals and not to be worried about. They fall off.
The studs do wind out. Just wait till you over tighten them so the studs stretch, and then the little nuts will bind on the ends because the thread is the wrong pitch, so they will not do up properly and also unwind when you try to have another go.
Can be worth replacing them in case they were stretched. Even GSF ones work well.
