1p and 2p coins, who knew?

  1. Who knew they'd changed the composition of 1p and 2p coins in 1992 so they are now magnetic?

Pre '92 coins aren't but ones made after that can be picked up with a magnet.

  2. I noticed that a while back when i had a magnet in my pocket :)) swindlers not even real coppers now!! Could be handy if you frequent the arcades thou  or is that how they manage to balance them in big piles like they do?? Their are also a load of 20p in circulation that dont have a date on them , they are apparently worth £100 so empty your piggys :))

it got to a point that the price of copper was more than the amount used in the coin so in effect to melt down old 2s and 1s are worth more than face value.

  7. i take this is in relation to them changing all 10p and 5p`s to steel as well

  8. The cat had a 2p stuck to its collar the other night. I thought it must have been a fake coin, then I thought why would anyone bother to make a fake 2p. So that answers that!! Thanks ;D

  10. They used to roll the steel for the coins in Ebbw Vale Steel Works then the Royal Mint would stamp them out & Copper plate them. It used to cost more than 1p in copper to make a 1p coin & people were starting to weigh them in. Cos of this they went to steel.
Old post I know but I only just come across it :)
